Testimonials from clients

Carol M.

"Until I joined Jeffrey's Caretakers Group, I was clinically depressed, morbidly obese and borderline suicidal, as my husband developed and exhibited increasing symptoms of dementia. The man I had known so well was transforming into someone often unrecognizable and difficult to live with.

The loss of what had been my helper and protector was a source of anxiety and then anger, as I felt increasingly abandoned by the person on whom I relied to  protect me and grow old with me over the years. I was not only losing my husband to what was eventually diagnosed as Alzheimer’s, but also confronting the loss of my life as I had expected to live it for whatever future remained.

Joining Jeffrey’s group provided the support and perspective that have made the last three years (yes, that’s how long I have been attending) bearable. The opportunity to listen to the experiences of others at various stages along the caretaker journey is incredibly helpful, as is being able to contribute whatever insights I can to the those also struggling to cope. But without question, it is Jeffrey’s quiet, skilled, and empathetic leadership that provides the invaluable guidance and support that each one of us needs. He is not just a highly educated and experienced professional  - he is also one of us, with similar family challenges.

That he chooses to share his invaluable knowledge and experience with so many others speaks volumes. I am grateful to have found Jeffrey and his group and have perpetual admiration and respect for  his generosity of time, energy and spirit."

"For approximately a year I have been attending a grief counseling class with Jeff as the leader of the group. Jeff is an excellent listener.  He provides insights into helping our group get through the difficult situations we face. He is compassionate and encouraging. Jeff has helped me and others in the group feel comfortable with our emotions and has given examples of ideas we can do to help us in different circumstances.  I appreciate his insights and know that he is a good person."

"Dr. Steel has helped me deal with my loss of the retirement I had planned because of my wife’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. With Dr. Steel’s guidance from his years of experience, I’ve been able to navigate the challenges to be the best caregiver for my wife."

He is a constant encourager and has a genuine desire to see patients, friends, and everyone he meets walk in freedom from grief and trauma, something we all encounter in our human journey. I met Jeff through an Alzheimer’s support group that I attend. I can’t say enough good things about his positive approach, understanding demeaner and ability to distill an issue to a common sense and caring observation and/or suggestion. He leads the group with an all inclusive vibe where everyone is free to share their thoughts without judgement. I look forward to attending this group every month, and miss it when I can not attend, and this is because of Jeff’s approach 100%! Surfing has been a topic woven into many group sessions and it is obvisously one of Jeff’s passions. I can only imagine how positive of an experience he will make Surf & Solace for all that are fortunate to partake in its program.
